There was a time – nearly a century ago – when Europe was criss-crossed by glamorous long distance trains. They inspired authors like Agatha Christie and Ian Fleming, and were the settings for some of the greatest movies ever made. Excited travellers could pull out of one great city, dine in style, sleep in comfort and arrive for morning coffee in another fine European destination.

Those days are now back as in the past couple of years a succession of brand-new night trains have started running.

All Aboard The Night Train follows a series of European mini-breaks, each featuring not one but two great cities. And instead of an overnight hotel and a suitcase full of air miles, we will be travelling on the new legion of magnificent night trains.

From Austria’s NightJet to Sweden’s Euronight, our back to the future travel takes us from spectacular central stations to the heart of great capitals hundreds of miles away. And we’ll be keeping an eye on the new routes and services coming online this year - some boasting golden-age luxury… some, not so much. But either way, being climate-conscious has never felt so enticing.
